Data Detectives

Room 18 wanted to find out the most popular colour car for the Teachers' at Sunnyhills School.
We worked in pairs and went out to the staff carpark and made up a tally chart. With our information we made bar graphs to show what we found out. We found that red is the most popular coloured car for Teachers'. Miss Small saw our finished work and gave everybody a special sticker that says "Miss Small thinks my work is wonderful" which we are all very proud of!
Well done Room 18!

A fun Friday with our Buddies

After reading with our Buddy we went out onto the field and played some games. We used a ball or a hoop and made up some games with each other.
After some time outside we were all so hot so we went back to Room 18 and sang some songs together.
See you next Friday Buddies!

Lola Came to Visit Room 18!

Room 18 had a gorgeous young lady come to visit us.
We all sat in a big circle and Lola walked around and met all of us.
Aryton told us that she is 8 weeks old, her favourite toy is a stuffed pet dog, she eats dry puppy food and she was born in Palmerston North. He also said that she sometimes is a bit naughty as she likes to chew shoes!
Thanks Aryton for bringing Lola in to meet all of us.

One Hit For History

In writing we wrote letters to Brendon McCullum to congratulate him on setting a new record of the most runs for a New Zealand batsman.
Here is my letter to him. I hope you enjoy reading it.

Dear Mr McCullum
Congratulations on topping the list of New Zealand Cricket history with a triple-century. 302 runs is the best, beating Martin Crowe who got 299 runs 23 years ago. We were losing in the second test, but you stepped in and put on that ‘winning’ look, and got the best (A triple-century). 775 minutes is quite a long time so you were probably pooped by the time you got out. I figured out that 775 minutes is 12 hours and 55 minutes.
Well done, excellent work and I hope you had a good time.

Rubie's Spider

Today Rubie bought in a spider which was found on her deck at home.
Her very brave Mum put it in a jar with breathing holes at the top.
Room 18 tried to discover what type of spider it was by going on Te Papa's, "What spider is that?" website but we couldn't decide what type of spider it was.
Click here to take you to the website to see what you think.
The spider had no white tail, was a grey/brown colour and the fangs were a reddish brown colour.
After we had a turn looking at the spider we all decided it was best to set her/him free.
Mrs Poole was very brave and managed to take off the lid and put it on the grass. Well done Mrs Poole!
Thanks Rubie for an interesting news item.

Aryton's New Puppy

Aryton bought in his new puppy to meet Mrs Poole yesterday after school.
Her name is Lola and she is a Labrador pup.
She will come and visit all of Room 18 but not until she is a bit older.
Isn't she gorgeous!

Room's 18 & 21 are Buddies

On Friday we met our buddy class room 21.
Our buddies are year 1's and we are all very excited to be responsible, caring, friendly role models to them.
We are going to meet on a Friday to listen to our buddies read or to read them a story, play a game or help them with an inside activity.
